MLK Day 2010
MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY was a day of “Stitching for Others”
January 18, 2010
What a delightful day we had! Stitchers of all ages joined us at In a Yarn Basket for a marathon of knitting, crocheting, fun, food and laughter. By the end of the day, the basket was filled with lovely hats, scarves, ear warmers and mittens. Many children and adults are much warmer as the result of so much caring. Thanks to all who came and participated and also thanks to those who could not stay but brought donations to the shop.

The Ninhue Project
In 1971 Bloomington resident Carmen Orrego-Salas introduced the women of Ninhue, Chili to the non-traditional craft of crewel embroidery and has since promoted their work internationally. Today the women are renowned for their one-of-a-kind original designs of pictorial tapestries, accessories and figures of people & animals. The embroiderers' creativity and initiative has empowered them, provided modest advances in their personal lives and improved their village.
There is a group from Bloomington dedicated to preserving this tradition and the long relationship with the women of Ninhue.
